Our elephants are together!
After several weeks of progressive and protected contact under the close supervision of the keepers, our elephant bull Gandhi has finally been introduced to our female herd.
The first confrontation with Malicia, our dominant female, lead to some minor hustles. But Gandhi’s tusks are still protected with pieces of plastic pipe which helps prevent injuries. Each female accepted Gandhi very quickly by allowing him to stay close and touch them with his trunk. Finally, after only a few minutes, everyone seemed rather relaxed!
Our four elephants can now be seen in their outdoor enclosure during the day. Gandhi goes back to his building at lunch time, before joining the females again in the early afternoon.
